A Statement by the Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey on Governor Jon Corzine’s Selection of Loretta Weinberg for Lieutenant Governor:

“Governor Corzine made an excellent choice in Senator Loretta Weinberg for his Lieutenant Governor nominee.

As the Governor said in his announcement, Loretta Weinberg will bring not only her extensive legislative experience to the campaign, but her honesty, integrity, and values. Senator Weinberg’s record on
ethics and reform is another strong testimonial as to why women make a difference in government: the citizens of New Jersey will only stand to benefit from her expertise as the campaign progresses.

As a long-time supporter of the Women’s Political Caucus and our mission, Senator Weinberg understands the importance of bringing more women in to the political process. For her commitment to
women’s causes and her distinguished career in politics, Senator Weinberg was presented with the Barbara Boggs Sigmund Award in 2004-an award given annually by the Caucus to women who
espouse the political values of the late Princeton mayor.

The Governor’s selection of Senator Weinberg is yet another positive sign for women who aspire to statewide political office. As we said earlier this week, New Jersey is fortunate in that each political
party possesses qualified female candidates capable of serving in high level positions. Now, women are not only considered for these positions, they are bonafide candidates and running mates.

As an organization focused on political parity, this has been an outstanding week for women.”
